the media server streams the multimedia object at the higher rates during fast-forward or rewind. in this approach it requies largest network bandwidth between server and proxy server. the proxy server request the lower resolution stream of same multimedia bandwidth object for fast forward and rewind. this requies that the media server stores either multi resolution copies of the same object or a single object coded specially for multi- resolution delivery.
the second storage medium unit is assigned to one of the end devices which requires a first operation mode under the control of the system manager; and the first storage medium unit is assigned to the remaining end devices which require a second operation mode under the control of the system manager.the third option is to implement a traanscode enable proxy server so that the proxy server can deliver lower resolution media streaming to user request for vcr function.
in this method some multimedia objects are skipped during fast forward and rewind.using the frame skipping method a proxy server can perform fast forward and rewind function without contacting media servers if enough multimedia data are cached.
