Shane Watson (78) scored his maiden Test fifty. His previous highest was 41 in the first Test at Bangalore. Watson and Brett Lee put on 73 runs, which equals Australia's best partnership for the eighth wicket against India in India. Tom Veivers and Graham McKenzie had also put on 73 at Chennai in 1964-65.
· The above partnership also set a new record for the highest eighth wicket partnership at Mohali. The previous best was 53 by Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh vs England in 2005-06.
· The wicket of Brett Lee was Harbhajan Singh's 60th wicket against the Australians at home. He now moves ahead of Anil Kumble who also has 59 wickets against Australia at home. England's Ian Botham (79) has taken maximum wickets against Australia at home.
· Amit Mishra, with 5 for 71 became the sixth bowler to claim five wickets in debut innings for India. Others to perform this feat for India in chronological order are - Mohammad Nissar (5-93 vs England at Lord's in 1932), VV Kumar (5-64 vs Pakistan at Delhi in 1960-61), Abid Ali (6-55 vs Australia at Adelaide in 1967-68), Dilip Doshi (6-103 vs Australia at Chennai in 1979-80) and Narendra Hirwani (8-61 v West Indies at Madras in 1987-88).
· Mishra is the fourth spinner to capture five wickets or more in an innings at Mohali, joining Anil Kumble (twice), Harbhajan Singh and Danish Kaneria (Pakistan).
· MS Dhoni became the fourth Indian captain not to enforce the follow-on upon the opposition despite being entitled to do so after Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. Interestingly all the previous three Tests ended in draw.
· Sehwag and Gambhir brought up their fourth century stand for the first wicket - the first by this pair against Australia.
· Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir have now recorded seven partnerships of 50-plus in their last 8 innings - 167 and 90 against Sri Lanka at Galle; 51 and 62 at Colombo PSS; 70 and 16 against Australia at Bangalore and 70 at and 100 (unbroken) at Mohali.
